The Kota revere the artifacts of their forefathers.
When a chief died, the initiated removed numerous relics from the deceased's body, which were subsequently ornamented with metal and rubbed with powders of various magical qualities. The Kota created a great number of ancestral statues with the diamond-shaped lower portion known as mbulu-ngulu.
At rituals, the tribe and the new Chief would dance with the Kota Mask to connect with the Ancestors. This mask also protects you from evil.
